MADRID

From November 1st to 4th we started our prayer gathering in Madrid. We had 45-50 different participants involved over the 4 days. We met at On the Red Box prayer and evangelism room overlooking Puerta Del Sol at the very centre of Madrid. The city was outside our door. We appreciate the involvement and coordination of our time with Leo and Renee from YWAM Madrid and who are also coordinators of 365 a year-round national prayer initiative for Spain. Furthermore, we saw pastors from different churches in Madrid involved as well as 2 DTSs: one DTS from Torrejon de Ardoz (Madrid) and the other from Caceres. The leaders at the prayer room were also involved and we appreciate the care they showed to us in our time there. In the mornings, we prayed and worshipped together and then received teaching about the spiritual history of Spain and Madrid from Renee and Leo. Then in the afternoons the DTSs received teaching from myself on Intercession and Spiritual Warfare and then we went to the streets to pray at different strategic locations.

Our prayer times were spent praying for:
  • Puerta del Sol praying for forgiveness, purity and holiness – Interestingly, one man who stayed to watch us pray in the Puerta del Sol gave his life to Jesus while we were praying. He said his reason for doing this was he just wanted to be clean of all the things he had done wrong and he believed Jesus could forgive him.
  • Human trafficking and prostitution in central Madrid
  • The Local & National government buildings in Madrid
  • Economic well-being and unhealthy ties with colonial nations
  • The upcoming General Election
  • Statue of Cibeles & Communion/Worship Time
  • Cultural & Exposition Building

A highlight of our time in Madrid was meeting with the Spanish and international political Conservative organization Hazte Oir and Citizen Go. This was a fruitful time praying with Catholic believers. It was also a chance to agree with other Christians who are impacting Government both in Madrid and around the world.

TOLEDO

Praying over Toledo before entering the city

After our time in Madrid, we also spent a day praying at the old capital of Spain: Toledo. We partnered with the YWAM house of prayer there and I spoke on Humanism verses the Holy Spirit in Europe concerning the root of humanism in Toledo. This was followed by a powerful prayer time for a fresh move of the Holy Spirit in Toledo, Madrid and Europe. After lunch we felt God asking us to pray for the Holy Spirit and the root of humanism in Toledo and also for the history of Jewish persecution in Toledo. We went to the city and prayed, worshiped and danced across the bridge where the Jewish population was sent out hundreds of years previously. We also prayed at one of the locations it is believed some of Aristotle’s work was rediscovered, translated, and sent out through Europe to the world.

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:20-24)

LISBON

On November 5th we flew to Lisbon were we stayed at the YWAM base in Mems Martinz: a suburb of Lisbon. The three members of the international team for the OCE were: Henning Schikora, Beke Kraemer and Steven Hanratty. We met together on the evening of November 6th and we felt God speaking about praying with the YWAM staff and students at the base about reconciliation between the Brazilian members of the base and the Portuguese members of the base. We believed that God wanted to cleanse that relationship as a community and between the two nations internationally. This turned out to be a powerful prayer time with many prophetic acts of forgiveness and reconciliation.

After our prayer time with the YWAM base we spent time praying around Lisbon as an OCE team. Over the next two days we covered most of the significant sites in Lisbon. We felt the history of the King of Portugal, Carlos I, being assassinated by a political group in 1908 was a significant turning point in the leadership of the nation. We also felt that the current political instability had some of its roots in that incident. The stability of the nation both economically and politically became a reoccurring theme throughout our time.

We prayed at:

  • Belem Tower as a gateway in and out of Lisbon
  • Statue to the Discovers and the history on colonialism in Portugal
  • Jeronimos Monastry for the Catholic Church
  • Site of the assassination of the King in the Praça do Comércio
  • Castelo de Sao Jorge for the history of Islam and Christianity in Portugal
  • Parliament Building for the recovery of the economy and stability in leadership.

The final evening we went to church in Lisbon where we felt encouraged to see a vibrant, modern congregation seeking God and doing mission. This was an encouraging evening as we had prayed for these very qualities for the church in Lisbon earlier that same week.

GIBRALTAR

On November 9-10 we travelled by bus from Lisbon through Sevilla to Gibraltar. In Gibraltar we stayed at the Europa Retreat Center close to Europa Point at the southern tip of Gibraltar. Gibraltar is a self-governing protectorate of the United Kingdom also known as a ‘British Oversees Protectorate’. We partnered with Maggie & Joe Hoskens of the Gibraltar House of Prayer. Gibraltar is a gateway location for the Mediterranean Sea. It is strategic in international trade and business and has a history of conflict and hostile takeovers. It has most recently been at the centre of an international dispute between Spain and the United Kingdom regarding international fishing and border controls.

Chief Minister’s Office

Chief Minister’s Office

We prayed at:

  • The Chief Minister’s office for the upcoming elections
  • The Jewish Synagogue (where the very first Chief Minister was president) and the Jewish graveyard and heritage site – Gibraltar has regularly been a refuge for Jews in its modern history.
  • The Pillars of Hercules and international trade and business
  • The Moorish Castle and the history of Islam in Gibraltar
  • The Gibraltar Rock: look out point over Spanish/Gibraltar border- reconciliation and forgiveness between the two nations.

We also had a very good prayer time with Maggie and Joe and the rest of the prayer group at the Methodist Church Café in Gibraltar. This time focused on the Holy Spirit and encouragement for the ongoing prayer warriors in that group and prayer in Gibraltar in general. We were also able to share about the impact prayer has had on governments around Europe.
